It is set to be a memorable fourth Hong Kong Sevens appearance for Melody Li Nim-yan, who has been chosen to spearhead Hong Kong's bid for World Series qualification during April 4-5.
Speaking at an open training session at the Hong Kong Football Club last Friday, Li expressed her delight at succeeding Gai Wu teammate Christy Cheng Ka-chi as squad Captain.
"I was a little bit nervous but also happy when I heard about the news," she said.
"Some of us senior players will have to talk more and I feel like as captain, I have to help my team more."
"I am honoured to take this role and hopefully, I will do good job in the coming competitions."
Both Hong Kong Men's and Women's Sevens squad will travel to Malaysia for the Borneo Sevens between March 23-24, competing in their respective categories as the Hong Kong Dragons.
The nature of the Women's opposition in Borneo resembles that of their Qualifying pool in April, with Papua New Guinea, Kenya and Uganda playing offering a more unstructured and physical brand of rugby.
"We haven't played them much before but they are physical and have the size to have a go at our contact area," Li said.
"We just have to be more agile and move the ball more instead and we will be analysing them over the next two weeks to come up with strategies against them."
